What changed in October 2026
The dates are on Microsoft's own support page, Microsoft Publisher will no longer be supported after October 2026.
- With Microsoft 365: Publisher left on or shortly after October 1, 2026. You can no longer install it, or open and edit .pub files with it.
- If you bought Publisher once (Office 2021 or older): support ended on October 13, 2026, but Microsoft says you can still install it and open your files. Then you may not need us: save a PDF copy of each file while you have it.
- Your files are still yours: your .pub files are still where you saved them. Only the app that opens them is gone.
- Microsoft's advice: convert each file to PDF to view it, and from PDF to Word to edit it. Microsoft warns that the Word layout may not match the original.
- What a free app gets you: we ran three public sample Publisher files through LibreOffice, the free office suite that opens .pub files. A brochure came out close, with titles spilling out of their boxes. A newsletter came out broken: its linked text boxes printed the same story two and three times on top of each other. And it cannot save a .pub as a Word file at all.
What you get, and what you do not
For each file
- A Word file (.docx) with your text, pictures and colors, laid out to look like your original, built so you can change the words next month without the layout falling apart. It also opens in Google Docs.
- A PDF copy, ready to print or email.
- Your text exactly as written. We fix nothing in your words unless you ask.
Not included
- A pixel-perfect copy. Word lays out pages differently, so we aim for close and easy to edit, and we tell you what moved.
- Fonts you do not own. If your file uses a font Word does not have, we use the nearest free one and tell you its name.
- Files with a password, and files over 4 pages (we quote those).
- Printing, mailing, or new designs.
We never ask for your password
You email the file. We never ask for your Microsoft password, your account, or remote access to your computer. We open your file only in a sealed box with no internet, use it only for your job, and delete our working copies 30 days after we send the result.

Questions
Can I still open .pub files myself?
With Microsoft 365, not in Publisher any more. If you bought Office 2021 or an older Office with Publisher, Microsoft says it still installs and opens your files, with no more updates. LibreOffice Draw, a free app, opened all three sample files we tried, but its copies need checking page by page, and it cannot save a Word file.
What if the Word file does not look right?
Tell us what is off and we fix it. If we cannot rebuild a file you paid for, we refund the $19 in full. Terms.
I have dozens of files. Can you do them all?
Yes. Email us how many and roughly how many pages, and we quote first. You pay nothing until you say yes.
Is my file safe with you?
We open it only in a sealed box with no internet, we never share it, and we delete our working copies 30 days after we send the result. Ask, and we delete your email too.
Who does the work?
Tack, our AI personality, does all of it. It reads each file, rebuilds the layout as a Word file, and checks the result page by page against your original.
Are you part of Microsoft?
No. Brasspage is an independent studio. Microsoft and Publisher are Microsoft's names; we only help you move your files.
