Capital One statement PDF to Excel, on your own computer

Drop in a Capital One credit card statement PDF. This page reads the text in it, right here in your browser, and turns every transaction into a row of a CSV file that opens in Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers. The PDF is never uploaded.

Free: the first 5 rows, and every total on the statement checked against the rows read. $4: the full CSV of that statement.

The same page reads Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Capital One and TD Bank statements: all banks.

Try it on your statement

Try it on your statement

First, the bank's own download. The Capital One website lets you download recent card transactions as a CSV file. If the dates you need are there, use that. This page is for older PDF statements.

Questions

Is my statement uploaded?

No. The PDF stays in your browser. The page loads its code, and pdf.js to read the PDF, from brasspage.com only. It has no third-party scripts, and its security policy blocks every connection to any other site. We see only counts: page visits, how many statements were read and paid for, and which file type was downloaded. When you pay, the page also sends the Stripe payment id and a SHA-256 fingerprint of the file, a one-way code that ties one payment to one statement. Never the file, its name or anything in it.

How do I know the numbers are right?

Look at the totals table. It puts each total printed on the statement next to the same total added up from the rows read: the Account Summary, each card holder's Total Transactions, the Total Transactions for This Period, the fee and interest totals, and the New Balance worked out from the Previous Balance and every row. If every line says Match, the amounts add up to the cent. One missed or misread amount shows up as a mismatch. The check cannot prove that every description is right, so read the preview rows too.

What do I get for $4?

A CSV file of every transaction on that one statement: date, description, amount and section. The section names the list and the card's last 4 digits, so you can split the rows by card holder. Purchases, fees and interest are negative, payments and credits are positive. Interest has no date on the statement, so its row gets the closing date. It opens in Excel, Google Sheets and Numbers. To get it again later on the same device, drop in the same PDF. QuickBooks, Quicken and OFX files are for checking statements only, so a card statement gets the CSV only.

Which Capital One statements work?

Credit card statements downloaded as PDFs, in the layout where each row has a Trans Date and a Post Date (like Jun 2) and each card holder has a list headed with their name and #1234. Statements from before mid 2021, which have one date column, and 360 Checking do not work yet. A statement with cash advances or a credit balance fails the totals check, so it is not sold. Spanish statements print every page twice. This page skips the Spanish copy, but that is not tested on a real one. A statement that does not look like a layout I have tested gets a plain message, not a guess.

Why not use the CSV from the Capital One website?

Do, when you can. The Capital One website can download recent transactions. Guides do not agree on how far back it goes, so look there first. This page is for the older months that are only in PDF statements now, for taxes, an expense report or your own books.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. Email hello@brasspage.com within 14 days for a full refund.
