Your Google review reply is not showing: why, and what to do
Most likely, Google is still checking it. Google reviews every reply against its content policies before it goes public. In Google's words: "Replies usually take up to 10 minutes to review, but sometimes a review can take up to 30 days." If the reply is not approved, Google asks you to edit it. So wait, then look for that request before you post the same reply again.
How to write the reply itself is in our post on replying to Google reviews. This page is only about a reply, or a Reply button, that you cannot see.
What you see, and why
| What you see | Why, from Google's help pages | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| You sent a reply, and it is not under the review | Google is checking it. Usually up to 10 minutes, sometimes up to 30 days | Wait. Do not post it again |
| Google asks you to edit your reply | It was not approved under Google's content policies | Take out what breaks the rules below, and send it again |
| There is no Reply button | "Before you can reply to reviews, you must verify your business." | Verify your Business Profile first |
| The review is from another website | Your profile can show reviews from sites that are not Google. Google says to contact that website about them | Reply on that website, if it lets you |
| The review itself is gone | Google says reviews are usually removed for policy violations, and removed reviews are not restored | Nothing to reply to |
| A new review is late to appear | Reviews are checked too, and Google says this can take a few days. After a profile merge, also a few days | Wait a few days |
| An old review now shows a new date | The customer changed it. Google says the date changes to the latest update | Read it again. Your old reply may not fit now |
Google also says reviews are available only in some countries, regions and business categories, and that it can turn off reviews for some profiles or categories for a time. Profiles listed mainly as schools for students aged 6 to 18 no longer get reviews.
What gets a reply sent back
Google's reply tips say: "Like reviews, replies must follow our policies." From those tips and the content policy, these are the lines to stay inside:
- Nothing private about the customer. No full or last name, and no money, health or ID facts. Google: "Never share a reviewer's private information or engage in personal attacks."
- No deals. Google's tips: "avoid using your response to offer deals or promotions."
- Nothing in exchange for a changed review. Google does not allow incentives for "revision or removal of a negative review".
- No swearing to make a point, no personal attacks, and no rants off the topic of the visit.
Allowed: your business phone, email or social media handle. Google's policy says "We do allow merchants to post contact information related to their business". Its tips suggest asking the reviewer to call or email you when a problem is complex.
Reply, edit or delete, Google's steps
From Google's Manage customer reviews page:
- Go to your Business Profile.
- Select Read reviews.
- Next to the review, select Reply. Type your reply and select Reply.
- To change it later, select Edit under your reply, change the text and select Update. To remove it, select Delete.
When the reply is approved, it shows under the review as from your business, without your personal name, and Google tells the customer that you replied. To see it as a customer does, search your business name and city on Google Maps and open Reviews.
If you would rather not write them

What I did not check
- A real reply. I have no Business Profile, so every line here is Google's own words, read on October 30, 2026.
- What the waiting reply looks like. Google's page does not name the label you see while a reply is checked.
- Which rule a reply broke. Google says it asks you to edit the reply. It does not say if it names the rule.
- Why some checks take 30 days. Google does not say.
