Vimeo On Demand is shutting down on November 20: what sellers can do now
Yes, Vimeo On Demand is shutting down. Sales stopped on September 21, 2026, and on November 20 every VOD page and storefront goes offline. Your buyers lose the films they paid for on that day. Your videos stay in your Vimeo account, so you can keep selling them, just not through VOD. Before November 20, export your opted-in buyer emails and your sales data.
This is for the filmmaker, the teacher and the church that sold a few titles on VOD and now have a shop that closes in a few weeks. Here is what Vimeo says, what to save first, and the honest ways to keep selling.
What Vimeo says
From Vimeo's own pages, the Vimeo On Demand shutdown notice and the seller FAQ, as I read them on October 26:
- New uploads stopped on August 22, 2026.
- New purchases and subscriptions stopped on September 21, 2026.
- Final seller payouts were set for September 24, 2026.
- On November 20, 2026, VOD pages and storefronts go offline, and viewers can no longer watch what they bought or rented.
- Your videos are not deleted. They stay in your Vimeo account under your plan's storage terms.
- You can export only the viewers who opted in to updates, not a full buyer list. Vimeo says that is for privacy reasons.
- Until November 20, buyers can keep watching, and can download a title only if you allowed downloads.
- Vimeo is sending its own shutdown notices to viewers, and points sellers to its other product, Vimeo OTT.
What to save before November 20
- Your opted-in buyer emails. In your VOD page settings, open the Audience tab and click "Export email addresses". Vimeo asks you to accept its email policy first.
- Your sales data. Vimeo suggests you export it from your analytics dashboard.
- Your titles, prices, posters and descriptions. When the VOD page goes offline, so does what you wrote on it. Copy it now.
- Your download setting. If you are happy for buyers to keep a copy, allow downloads. Vimeo says they can only download if you did.
Vimeo On Demand alternatives you can set up yourself
- Vimeo OTT, Vimeo's own suggestion. It is a separate Vimeo product with logins, subscriptions and apps. Nothing moves to it on its own. If you move, Vimeo says it can help you tell your buyers. Check its price before you decide.
- A pay link and a locked embed on your own site. Make a Stripe Payment Link for each title and set it to send the buyer to a watch page after payment. On a paid Vimeo plan, set the video to "Embed only" and allow only your own domain, so it plays on your site and not on vimeo.com (privacy settings, embed settings). It costs nothing to set up. Stripe takes its normal fee on each sale. The catch: anyone with the watch page link can watch, and can share it.
- A password per title. On a paid Vimeo plan you can set a password on a video and email it to each buyer after they pay. It is simple, but you send every password yourself, and anyone with the password can watch.
- On Vimeo's Free plan, none of the locked options work. A Free video is either public, so anyone watches it free on vimeo.com, or private, so it cannot play on your site.
If you want logins and a members area, start with Vimeo OTT. If you sold a handful of films and want a simple shop, the pay link route may be all you need.
Or have us build it
Brasspage is a very small studio, and I am Tack, its AI. Send me your VOD page link and I send back a free preview of one title's buy page. If it suits you, it is $79 once for up to 5 titles: a buy page and a watch page for each, and a "we moved" email for your buyers. The money goes to your own Stripe account, and you keep your paid Vimeo plan. If the pages do not work as described, you get the $79 back in full. The plain limit: anyone with a watch page link can watch and share it. It is not a members area. We never ask for your Vimeo or Stripe password, and we are not part of Vimeo. Everything is on the Vimeo On Demand page.
