Vimeo On Demand to Vimeo OTT before November 20: what moves, and what it costs
Vimeo On Demand goes offline on November 20, 2026, and Vimeo points sellers to Vimeo OTT. Nothing moves on its own: Vimeo calls any move "a fresh start". Your videos come across without a new upload. Your products, prices and buyers do not. OTT takes 10% plus 50¢ on each purchase or rental, and to give an old buyer free access, Vimeo charges you $1 a person.
The rest of the shutdown, and the other ways to keep selling, are in our Vimeo On Demand post. This page is only about the move to OTT.
What moves to OTT, and what does not
| Your stuff | On Vimeo OTT |
|---|---|
| Your videos | Yes, linked from your Vimeo account with Add Vimeo Videos. No new upload. OTT keeps no copy, so a video you delete on Vimeo goes from OTT too |
| Titles, prices, posters, descriptions | No. You make each product again. Vimeo: "content and subscriber data will not be automatically migrated" |
| Your buyers' access | No. It ends on November 20. You can add a buyer free, at $1 each, if you have their email |
| Your buyer list | Only the viewers who opted in to updates. Vimeo says it cannot give full buyer lists, for privacy reasons |
| Telling buyers where you went | Vimeo Support sends your buyers a notice for you, once your OTT site is set up |
Vimeo's FAQ also says it is "currently polishing the viewer experience for imported content on OTT". So look at one imported title as a viewer before you tell anyone to go there.
What Vimeo OTT costs
From Vimeo's OTT pricing breakdown (edited August 7, 2026) and its free access page (edited October 28, 2026):
- To start: no upfront cost and no subscription fee. Vimeo takes a share of each sale instead.
- Buy and rent: 10% plus 50¢ a transaction. The card fee is in that.
- Subscriptions: $1 per subscriber per month, plus merchant fees of 2.5% plus 30¢. An annual subscriber costs $12 up front.
- Free access for old buyers: $1 per customer for a purchase or rental product, charged to the card on file. For a subscription, Vimeo counts every month of access.
- Payouts: monthly, on the 15th, for the month before, to a checking account. A 2% fee applies when the currency changes.
A quick sum: if 25 of your buyers opted in, giving all 25 their film back on OTT costs $25. The buyers who did not opt in you cannot add, because you do not have their email. For them, Vimeo offers only its notice.
The move, step by step
Before November 20, on Vimeo On Demand:
- Export your opted-in buyers. In your VOD page settings, open the Audience tab and click "Export email addresses". Vimeo asks you to accept its email policy first.
- Export your sales data from your analytics dashboard, as Vimeo suggests.
- Copy your titles, prices, posters and descriptions. You need them to make your OTT products, and the VOD pages go offline.
On Vimeo OTT:
- Sign up and connect your Vimeo account. If you made the OTT site from Vimeo, it is already connected.
- Go to Content, then Videos, and choose Add Vimeo Videos. Your Vimeo folders do not show here, so use the search bar. Select the videos and click Add to OTT.
- Go to Products, click Create product, and select Buy and rent. Add the title, description and thumbnail, set the buy price and any rental price, and choose Ready to Sell. Rentals default to unlimited access, with 30 or 14 days as options.
- To give old buyers access, go to Activity, then Customers, and click Add Customer. Select Buy or rent, pick the product, and add their emails. Check Notify customers via email if you want OTT to tell them. This is the $1 each step.
- Contact Vimeo Support with your VOD page URL and your OTT link, so Vimeo can send your buyers its notice.
One trap: Vimeo says at least one product must stay published, or your OTT site goes offline by itself.
If OTT is more than you need
OTT is a full storefront with logins and apps. If you sold a handful of films and want a buy button and a place to watch, that is a smaller job.
Brass tacks: Brasspage sells this. On our Vimeo On Demand page, $79 once gets a buy page and a watch page for each of up to 5 titles, and a "we moved" email that you send. The money goes to your own Stripe account, and your video plays from your own paid Vimeo plan. The plain limit: anyone with a watch page link can watch it. You see a free preview first, and to be live before November 20, start by November 13. If OTT fits you, you do not need me.
What I did not check
- A real move. I have no OTT site and no VOD page, so every step here is Vimeo's own words, read on October 30, 2026.
- Who gets Vimeo's notice. The FAQ says "your buyers". It does not say if that means every buyer or only some.
- How imported titles look to a viewer. Vimeo says it is still polishing this.
- Enterprise and non-US prices. Vimeo says fees vary on Enterprise contracts and in other currencies.
Questions people ask
Is Vimeo OTT the same as Vimeo On Demand?
No. Vimeo OTT is a separate Vimeo product, and Vimeo calls it the recommended alternative for VOD sellers. Nothing moves on its own: Vimeo's seller FAQ says any move is a fresh start.
Do I have to upload my films again?
No. On your OTT site, Add Vimeo Videos links the videos already in your Vimeo account. OTT keeps no copy, so if you delete a video on Vimeo, it goes from OTT too.
How much does Vimeo OTT cost?
Vimeo's pricing page for OTT says there is no upfront cost or subscription fee. It takes 10% plus 50 cents on each purchase or rental, and $1 per subscriber per month plus merchant fees of 2.5% plus 30 cents on subscriptions.
Can my Vimeo On Demand buyers watch on OTT for free?
Only if you add each one, and Vimeo charges you $1 per customer for a purchase or rental product. You need each buyer's email, and Vimeo gives you only the buyers who opted in to updates.
Will Vimeo tell my buyers that I moved to OTT?
Yes. Vimeo's seller FAQ says that once your OTT site is set up, you contact Vimeo Support with your VOD page URL and your OTT link, and Vimeo sends your buyers a notice on your behalf.
